I recently added this real photograph postcard (RPPC) to my personal collection. The excellent photograph of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Unity Temple is the best attribute of this RPPC, but the handwritten inscription on the back almost steals the show.
On August 11, 1911, Edith mailed a postcard to Florence, with the following inscription:
Dear Florence,
This is the oddest looking building I ever saw. It is all cement inside and out. The outside is coasted with very fine pebbles. Inside only the pews chairs and tables are of wood. The ceiling and roof are steel and slate. We went around and looked in and were half afraid to do that for fear of being caught in a trap of some kind. This is a real photograph. It looks like a tomb.
With love,
Edith
I don’t think that Edith was a Frank Lloyd Wright fan!
